from the square of San Romolo follow an asphalt road opposite to the meadow which goes north-bound between the houses. After 250 metres, where the road turns left, leave the road to follow a foothpath rising to the right in the wood (indicator panel “Monte Bignone”). A little further on you cross a road and carry on walking uphill. After roughly 400 metres (Colle Termini di Bajardo, 955 m) you reach a crossroads of four different paths, following the one which rises in front of you. From now on the “Sentiero Liguria” trail sign is found along the pathway. You carry on walking under a woodland of chestnuts, maritime pines and hairy oaks as far as the ridge of Monte Bignone in a grassland area with some buildings and the little church of Madonna del Carmelo (2 hours). Moving on westbound you reach the top of Monte Bignone by a dirt road and then a path in the wood (1299 m, remains of the pre-roman settlement “castellaro”). From the top you go back to San Romolo following the same road (1.45 hours, 4 hours in total).
by train get off at Sanremo station (Genoa-Ventimiglia railway line). By bus you reach Piazza Colombo where you take the bus number 14/11 to San Romolo (autolinee Riviera Trasporti, www.rivieratrasporti.it).
from Savona, by motorway, exit at Arma di Taggia (A10 Genova-Savona-Ventimiglia), from Ventimiglia, exit at Sanremo. From Sanremo centre follow the signs for “SP56 San Romolo” which you reach in about 20 minutes (13 Km from Sanremo)
