The hike from Lago di Poschiavo across the national border to Tirano combines nature experiences with interesting cultural and historical sites. Due to this variety, it is also suitable for children. The valley floor of Valposchiavo is used for agriculture, but is also home to various commercial and industrial enterprises, which the tour passes.
The circular viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway in Brusio is one of the sights along the way. This landmark of the Bernina line enables trains to negotiate the terrain below the village in a confined space and without the use of cogwheels. There is also a collection of small natural stone domes; in the past, dairy products and other perishable goods were kept cool in these crotti.
Later, you pass the Campascio vineyard, the only place in Valposchiavo where wine is grown. The little Romanesque church of Santa Perpetua is already on Italian soil. It offers a beautiful view of Tirano. In the geometric center of the town stands the pilgrimage church of Madonna di Tirano, which lines the last section of the hike.
The starting point is Miralago station. After the gentle ascent to Garbella, the route is mostly flat or gently descending. The tour ends at the Rhaetian Railway station in Tirano. Around a third of the route is asphalted. There are longer sections of hard surface, particularly between Brusio and Campascio and in Tirano.
There is a small Garden of Eden at the circular viaduct in Brusio. Apple, pear, peach and other fruit trees thrive there. The fruit is available to the general public under the motto "frutti per tutti".
