Breški Jalovec / Punta di Montemaggiore (1613 m)

From the village of Brezje, we continue along a gentle forest road.

When the forest road starts to descend, on the left side we find the trail junction (CAI 742) that will lead us to the summit.

The path first runs through the forest, then across steep grassy clearings up to the ridge. From a distance, it looks steeper and more exposed than it actually is, but in any case, the ascent requires caution and good footwear.

The summit ridge is not difficult. From the wide saddle where the steep part of our route ends, we continue left upwards toward the summit, which rewards us with exceptional views in all directions.

We return by the same route.

Typical equipment for mountain ascents: quality hiking boots, long pants, three layers of clothing including a windbreaker; backpack, at least one liter of drink per person, sun protection, first aid kit.

The path goes across steep grassy clearings where care must be taken not to trip and slip. The eastern and southern edges of the summit ridge are also very steep and exposed and require appropriate caution. The route is quite demanding due to the steep ascent and is not suitable for inexperienced children or insufficiently prepared elderly hikers.

The starting point in the village of Brezje can be reached from the Italian side through Tipano, from the Slovenian side through Breginj and PlestišÄe.

There is no public transport.

We park in the village of Brezje in a small organized parking lot next to the church.

The most suitable time to climb Breški Jalovec is late spring or autumn. In the summer months, the southern slopes can be very hot.
