Last Christmas, a Christmas tree, cut down from the forest, was placed in the decorated living room. This year we would like to give something back to nature and fly over Munich like an angel. Because even the Christ Child does not leave a CO2 footprint.
That's why we start our tour like a symbol at the Friedensengel and go on a journey through the Maximiliansanlagen, the Old Town and the New Town all the way to the Glockenbachviertel. Here you will find Munich's only climate-neutral Christmas market, which shines brightly in its pink colour. From there you continue your walk until you cross the Isar with an enchanting view. Finally, climb the steps to the Nockherberg, where you can borrow your greenest Christmas tree in a pot or make it your own.
Merry Christmas!
PS: We would be happy if you tag the tour with the #OhTannenbaumOA on your Instagram posts.
Once there, cross the street once and walk along the Villa Stuck Museum in the direction of the Friedensengel. Enjoy the view over the Maximilian complex and the splendour of the golden statue. Then, with a view of the sight, stroll right into the park. Breathe in the fresh air of the trees and take the right fork as soon as the path splits for the first time. 450m further on is a bridge, which you cross and walk along the Bavarian Parliament. Continue on the Maximiliansbrücke across the Isar, where you can admire the Praterinsel from above. Follow Steindorfstraße along the Isar and turn right into Obermaierstraße. At the end of the street, turn left into Thierschstraße, which leads into Rumfordstraße after passing Isartorplatz. Follow this street for 550m until you turn half left into Müllerstraße.
After about 700m, turn left into Pestalozzistrasse before turning into Stephanstrasse for the last time before the "Pink Christmas"Christmas market.
After your stop, walk back along Müllerstrasse until you reach Fraunhoferstrasse. Follow this street for 570m, which will eventually lead you to Reichenbachbrücke. After enjoying the view over the Isar, continue straight ahead along Ohlmüllerstraße until you see the stairs on the left after about 500m. Climb the steps to the Nockherberg. When you arrive at the Paulaner beer garden, the shining lights will lead you to the climate-positive Christmas tree rental and sale of the Schwanenland tree nursery at the "Winterfest am Nockherberg". The route ends with choosing the perfect tree for you.
The next underground station is Kolumbusplatz. To transport your Christmas tree like an angel after your experience, choose the underground and tram for your own C02-neutral journey home.
Merry Christmas!
Since it's a winter tour, feel free to get your old pair of winter shoes with sufficient tread out of the closet.
Footwear with tread, as it can get slippery during the cold season.
If you are coming from the city centre, we recommend taking the U4 in the direction of Arabellapark and getting off at Max-Weberplatz. From there, take the tram 37 in the direction of St. Emmeram to our starting point.
Start: Tram station Friedensengel/Villa Stuck
As we are in the middle of the city, parking is difficult. In addition, the aim is to enable a CO2-positive route and thus to rely on the underground, tram, bicycle or footpath.
For that extra Christmas music kick: bit.ly/OhTannenbaumOAIn summer, we recommend stopping off at the Eismeer ice cream café for a cool down.
