The route over the toboggan run and through lonely mountain forest up to the Kolbensattel hut is especially suitable for beginners who want to become familiar with the technique of snowshoe hiking. After resting in the cozy Kolbensattel hut, the descent takes place beside the ski run via the ski tour educational trail.
The route was created in 2015 within the framework of the project "Eco-friendly ski mountaineering" by the German Alpine Club, in collaboration with local representatives (forestry, hunting, and farmers).
Please respect existing wildlife quiet zones and avoid the time between dusk and dawn, as wildlife is particularly vulnerable to disturbances then.
The ascent goes in the direction of Pürschling-Haus via the forest road, which is also used as a toboggan run. Watch out for oncoming traffic! At the large junction, where the path through the Schleifmühlklamm joins from below, turn left and walk through lonely mountain forest, leisurely uphill to the Kolbensattel hut.
The descent leads along the ascent track of the ski tour educational trail (signposted) down into the valley. Please make sure to always descend beside the ascent track for the ski tourers to avoid damaging the track system.
From the valley station of the Kolbensesselbahn in Oberammergau, it takes 30 minutes on foot to the starting point at the Pürschling car park in Unterammergau. You can also take the bus which departs from the nearby station in Oberammergau.
