Cycle on Germany's oldest holiday route. With Wertheim Castle at your back, you initially follow the leisurely riverside cycle path along the Main to Bettingen. Shopping enthusiasts should be careful when passing Wertheim Village. On quiet streets and cycle paths, you roll through the Aalbach valley past forests, meadows, and charming small towns where time seems to have stood still.
After a gentle ascent and a fairytale forest passage, your bike rolls down the hill alone until you meet the Main again and get a view of the Marienberg Fortress, the Würzburg landmark. The 32 km long cross connection from Bettingen to Würzburg is the perfect shortcut for you on the 91 km long cycling tour along the Main and just as scenic.

From Wertheim you first follow the Main Cycle Path to Bettingen.
The Aalbach Cycle Path offers varied routing through nature and village areas and is suitable for cyclists who want to explore lesser-known sections as well as families. From Bettingen you initially cycle past Wertheim Village and then the path snakes along small hills past meadows, fields, and forests. A rewarding climb awaits you before Waldbüttelbrunn and after Höchberg your efforts are rewarded with a great descent to Würzburg.
The cycle path is signposted with "Romantic Road" and mostly runs on flat, separate, and paved paths, mostly away from road traffic.

Deutsche Bahn: Wertheim is located on the Frankfurt/Aschaffenburg/Lauda/Bad Mergentheim/Ulm/Friedrichshafen railway line.
ICE or IC travelers of Deutsche Bahn reach Wertheim from Würzburg via Lauda in about 90 minutes and by bus (no bike transport) in about 60 minutes.
