The trail stage begins in Hechingen at the collegiate church of St. Jakobus. You walk across the market square, past the town hall on the left, through the Untere Tor (lower gate), through the steeply sloping Staig into the lower town and cross the Starzel river. After the bridge, turn right through Gutleuthausstraße to Bahnhofstraße. Cross Bahnhofstraße offset to the right and follow the Stationsweg to the church of St. Luzen and continue along St.-Luzen-Weg out of town, cross under the B 27 and the feeder road to the B 32, then turn right and cross the Starzelbrücke bridge.
The Jakobusweg turns left before the level crossing and leads along the tracks to Hechingen-Schlatt to the church of St. Dionysius.
Walk 200 metres along the main road, turn right into Ständelweg, cross the railway track and, after the last houses, follow the cycle path to the left towards Jungingen. In Jungingen straight on, then through Unterdorfstraße and the street "Im Gässle" downhill to the main street. After a few metres, turn right into Schüttestraße, which takes you past the sports facilities to the B 32, which you follow for 900 metres to the entrance to Burladingen-Killer. Turn left into Hofstättstraße, past the whip museum in the old railway station, to the Mater Dolorosa church.
Opposite the Mater Dolorosa church begins Katharinenstraße, which you follow uphill.
The main trail now leads via Ringingen to Burladingen. A shorter, less ascending path variant directly to Burladingen branches off to the right at the end of the village.
Alternative route: Turn into Hohe Straße, then continue along a grassy path at the turning area, which turns into a forest path.
Turn right on a tarred path for 100 metres, then continue along the edge of the forest, cross the railway line at the Schützenhaus and follow the cycle path parallel to the B 32 to Burladingen. You will pass the site of the Roman fort and the Roman settlement.
In Burladingen, head towards the town centre until you reach the roundabout, where the path variant rejoins the main path.
Main trail: Continue uphill along Katharinenstraße, which turns into a steeply ascending forest trail at the end of the village.
On the plateau, the Jakobusweg leads through a shady avenue. At its end, cross a farm track and follow a comfortable meadow path "one level higher", which offers beautiful views over to Kornbühl with the Salmendingen Chapel, to Burladingen-Ringingen. In the village, the trail first goes downhill along Alte Killerstrasse, then right along Helschlochstrasse to the Jakobusbrunnen (St. James' fountain) at the junction of Hilbgasse, which in turn leads to the church of St. Martin.
The Jakobusweg leads from the Jakobusbrunnen up the Bachstraße to the Kreisstraße to Burladingen.
From here, a large cross can be seen in the valley hollow at a distance of about 500 metres, marking the turn-off of the pilgrim's path into the forest, which can be reached via a field path to the left of the road. Between the pilgrim's cross and a wayside shrine with a statue of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, you first go uphill, then turn right onto a beautiful forest path that takes you along the slope to Burladingen.
The Traufweg takes you downhill to Ambrosius-Heim-Straße, which you follow to the left, past the Marienkapelle am Hochsteig, over the railway crossing to the roundabout.
Here the alternative path rejoins the main path.
You walk along the main road to the left until Josenstraße branches off to the right, at the end of which is the Fehlaquelle spring. Through Sankt-Veits-Gasse, which branches off from Josengasse, and the little street " Im Gässle" you come to the church of Sankt Georg.
