On June 25, 2017, the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships 2017 took place in Singen. Follow the tracks of the world champions.
Unlike the Alpine regions, the Hegau has no long climbs but many short ones. Along the way, you will pass stately castles, bizarre rock formations, and expansive river landscapes. You will be rewarded with magnificent views. The route can be ridden very sportily but is manageable for everyone – and you should definitely take time to enjoy the wonderful views.
The starting point of the route is the Landesgartenschau parking lot, also known as "Festplatz Offwiese." Leave the parking lot past the motorhome disposal station onto the access road to the parking lot, cross Schaffhauserstraße, and follow the small Aach stream upstream. Shortly after, you leave this section and cross between Hohentwiel and Staufen, where the first climb awaits. Then it steadily goes uphill through meadows and forests until you reach Duchtlingen.
Here you have the option to shorten the route to 30 km by passing through the town and then following the signs for the short route to rejoin the trail.
For everyone else, continue towards Hohenkrähen and Mägdeberg, with two more Hegau volcanoes within reach that challenge the athlete and offer magnificent views.
North of Weiterdingen is the halfway point. Then you head south again, with the impressive Hohenstoffeln as an intermediate goal. This basalt mountain is the only one of the Hegau volcanoes with two peaks and lies almost like a camel in the Hegau. Here you reach the highest point of the route.
The route then continues over Hofgut Homboll and the Laurentiusstüble down to Hilzingen, where a visit to the Baroque church is especially worthwhile. Here you pass under the federal road and go via Dietlishof to Heilsberg, the local mountain of the people of Gottmadingen. Over gravel and forest paths, you then head back towards the motorway and through Dellenhau, past Singen forest cemetery, and back to the starting point in Singen.
