Ski tour - on the Zahn via the Kolbensattel Hut

The tour begins at the car park at the Kolbensattel in Oberammergau. Start by following the signposted ski tour route on the edge of the ski slope up to the Kolbensattel Hut.
After a short stop at the hut, leave the secured ski area to climb up to the rocky gorge. The route will initially take you in a south-westerly direction before later turning directly South via an easily visible, broad and steep forest cutting.
At the end of the cutting, turn left and proceed in a south-easterly direction via a narrow path. After a few minutes, another clearing with a thin population of trees will open up. Briefly ascend to the left up into the forest and return to the clearing when you reach the summer pathway. From here, traverse in a westerly direction to pass under a rocky knoll and then climb steeply for a few metres to reach a small wind gap in the ridge.
This is the location of the ski station, where the tour will end for many touring skiers. Experienced Alpine skiers can proceed westwards below the rocks and undertake a rocky climb to the top ridge.
The descent to the Kolbensattel Hut is via the route used for the ascent. When you reach the ski area, proceed via the slope to your starting point at the car park.
