Welcome to the village Wals/Siezenheim!
Wals-Siezenheim is a village in the district of Salzburg, surrounded by the Federal State of Salzburg, Austria.
Our village consists of 26 km² and is located in the Flachgau, the “Vacation Triangle” between Salzburg, Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden .
Proud of its population of about 12,500 inhabitants, Wals-Siezenheim has earned the nickname “Austria’s biggest village!”
Guests in Wals-Siezenheim can skip the hustle, bustle, noise and parking problems of staying in the city, yet still be right in the middle of all that is going on in Salzburg.
Wals-Siezenheim’s prime location makes it possible to reach the historic city center of Salzburg in just a few short minutes by car or by public transportation. Visitors will find that the trade and exhibition center, as well as the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet mall and shopping center are right nearby.
Take in a blockbuster film in the Cineplex Kino or enjoy a cocktail at the Atrium West. Wals-Siezenheim is known for its diverse gastronomy and offers guests numerous dining options to enjoy their evenings.
Even in this modern world, visitors to Wals-Siezenheim continue to experience our town’s idyllic flair where tradition and culture are greatly valued. One such example is the annual Aperschnalzer (whip cracking festival). Historically, this event was staged to chase away winter and to awaken spring. As part of the festival, between nine to eleven people crack short and long riding whips in unison making loud snapping noises to conjure up the change of season.
There certainly are no shortage of sporting activities here either. Our natural setting and the surrounding countryside of Wals-Siezenheim by Salzburg offers cycling, mountain biking and horseback riding. If you prefer, another option is to hike along the Jakobsweg trail.
There is a lot going on here indoors as well. If you prefer to watch athletic events rather than take part yourself, you’ll find plenty of opportunities as a spectator at wrestling tournaments in the arena or at soccer games in the Red Bull Stadium in Wals-Siezenheim by Salzburg.
