Visit this unique industrial monument, embedded in an idyllic landscape around the Alm river!

In a 400-year-old scythe factory on the Alm river, equipped with three original water-powered wide hammers and sockets, the visitors experiences the working conditions and working methods of the scythe smithy with live demonstrations. The Geyerhammer in Scharnstein / Upper Austria was in operation until 1987 and is now one of the most interesting excursion destinations and cultural sites in the Almtal.

The open-air museum impressively shows the transition from craftsmanship to industrial production and the emergence of the largest scythe factory in the Danube monarchy with all the effects on the entire region.

The signposted "Sensenweg" path with a length of approx. 2.4 km leads you through what used to be the largest scythe factory in the Danube monarchy. In this "open-air museum" you will find an ensemble of production facilities, residential buildings and the mansions of the "black counts".

Another highlight of your excursion could be a hike (about an hour's walk) to the nearby Scharnstein castle ruins.
