Ilbesheim Rebenmeerweg

You start at thealla Hopp! facility or elementary school in Ilbesheim and follow the brownish markings with the number 5"Rebenmeerweg". It takes you past the playground and the alla Hopp! facility, an intergenerational exercise and meeting space, and along the Birnbach stream through the Parc De Chavot Courcourt into the village and out into the vineyards of the"Ilbesheimer Kalmit" site.

Through thesea of vines you reach the historic wine press, a spindle press from 1764, near Landau-Wollmesheim, popularly known asthe "Wollmesheimer Mütterle". Here you have the opportunity to enjoy a picnic. Now continue along the country road with a view of Landau to your right and straight on to Landau-Arzheim.

Then you dive back into the sea of vines and walk straight towards the summit of the Kleine Kalmit. The name "Kleine Kalmit" comes from the Latin term calvus mons, which means bare mountain. It was formed 30 million years ago as a deposit of shell limestone when the Rhine rift valley subsided. On your way up, you can see as far as Hambach Castle near Neustadt. Once you reach the top, you will come across the Mater Dolorosa Chapel, which was built in 1851 by a priest from the neighboring parish of Arzheim to "comfort the poor souls". Behind the chapel is a unique view of the Palatinate Forest and the German Wine Route.

Once you have torn yourselves away from the view, the trail descends to the Kalmitwingert, a historic vineyard complex that demonstrates various forms of vine cultivation from ancient times to modern times. Here, too, you can enjoy a picnic in the shade of the trees. And also the view, as this was named"Wine View of the Year" in the Palatinate by the German Wine Institute in 2020. Further downhill, the trail leads you back down to the village and back to your starting point at the alla Hopp!

Sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, sun and rain protection as well as a sufficient supply of food and, above all, drinks, as there are not always places to stop for refreshments or to shop, should be in your rucksack for every tour. Although the trail is marked throughout, you should always have a suitable map or hiking app with you for safety reasons.

Use of farm tracks- Our tours in the vineyards often take us along paths that we share with others. We therefore ask you to be considerate and friendly at all times. Winegrowers, farmers and foresters use the farm roads through fields, forests and vineyards for their everyday work - even at weekends. Due to work and/or weather conditions, the paths may be more heavily soiled at times. Special care must also be taken when walking along the roads in and around the Palatinate villages. Road closures and detour must be observed at all times.

Dangerous situations- If an emergency situation arises, help is needed quickly. And even if cell phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points are often the quickest. These are located in places that are easily accessible for rescue vehicles. Remember the points with the green signs and a white cross. Return there in an emergency and quote the number on the sign when you make an emergency call. This way, the emergency services will know where to find you.

On the A65 highway, take the Landau-Nord exit onto the B10 towards Annweiler. Leave the B10 at the LD-Godramstein/LD-Arzheim exit and follow the signs to Arzheim. Cross Arzheim and follow the signs to Ilbesheim.

Take the train to Landau/Pfalz and from there take the bus(line 530 towards Ranschbach) to Ilbesheim. The bus stop Ilbesheim Schule is directly at the starting point of the tour.

Free parking is available at the Ilbesheim elementary school, the start of the tour.

Please only park in the designated parking spaces and always keep access routes for emergency vehicles and work routes in the forest and vineyards clear. For overnight stays in camper vans and caravans, there are designated camper van parking spaces.
